Convention--- the real story

We got home last night from the annual convention. Whew what a party!! How inspiring!! So informative!! So impossible to tell you "what" went on since so much of it involves simply being there to feel the spirit of the whole affair.

I find it interesting that at least 3 people in our group have told me that the most memorable thing to them was how real the leaders are. This is not like some businesses where there are lots of huge diamond rings flashed and actual fancy cars driven in to be on display to see how you too can make a kazillion dollars. This is all about helping others, both physically and financially.

In the spirit of being real, I think I will write a little about something I learned a long time ago. Something quite shocking to me at the time. That is that it is normal to experience 'convention let-down' when you get home from a glorious convention where you are on a high the whole time. It is rather like coming back to earth from a space trip to the moon.

There are phone calls to return, people needing help with their products, unpacking of new stuff you bought and the task of trying to find where to store it all. There is laundry and dishes and--real world situations. At convention you have been surrounded by thousands of positive people. At home the grumpy people are waiting for you, ready to burst your balloon. And there are leads to contact in both your warm and cold markets. You know--the stuff you have to do to get your business to the next level.

So, if you feel a little let down, just know that it is absolutely normal. Take a deep breath and keep asking yourself, "what's the most important thing for me to do next." Then do that one thing before asking the question again. That helps you to avoid being overwhelmed.

Sometimes it is hard to see people at convention who have been in the business a shorter time than you have and have seemingly risen to the top with the greatest of ease. ARG. Why is it so much harder for me, is a question that runs through the minds of many people.

It helps to remember the good times you had at convention. Start planning now how you can invite others to go with you next year. It is so much more fun to share these experiences with friends. Good friends who have experienced the good times with you can help you remember all the high moments of the convention.
