Picture this. You come home from a hard day at work and your two pets meet you at the door. Your cat rubs against your leg, purrs, then strolls over to the sofa and curls into a ball. Your dog wags his tail, barks, jumps up on you, runs around in a tight circle, barks, jumps up, wags his tail, barks some more.
Your dog is driving you crazy. You go to the sofa, turn on the TV, and relax while stroking the cat. You love the way your cat is just there, not demanding anything from you.
This was a story given at a recent business University by our trainer, Susan. The point of the story is that when we talk to prospects we need to be more like a cat and less like a dog. Hand over a piece of info then walk away. Don't jump on them and talk, talk, talk. It can be annoying, just like the dog.
Another trainer, Lenny, likes to talk about VV. Verbal Vomit. Avoid it at all costs. Instead use TT. Tool Time. Let the tool do the presenting and then go back and pick up the tool and ask what they liked best about what they saw or heard.
Go forth and multiply, using these principles.
PS Notice that I can remember these concepts several months later because Susan used a story and Lenny used an acronym. Good ideas when YOU are the teacher
